Top Ten Tuesday: Authors I’ve Read the Most

Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. This week’s topic is Top Ten Authors I’ve Read The Most Books From.

It was interesting to think about which authors I’ve read the most.While coming up with this list I realized there are a couple authors whose books I’ve read a lot of, though I no longer read anything by them. I also realized that there are quite a few authors whom I now love, though I’ve only read a few of their books so while they are favorites, they didn’t even make the list. I didn’t count authors of series I read in childhood, such as Goosebumps, Babysitters Club, Sweet Valley, Nancy Drew, etc. because then the list would have just been full of those authors.

Update: I actually have 11 now, because after publishing this post I realized there was one I forgot, and I just couldn’t let that oversight go uncorrected.

1. Neil Gaiman (19 books, including graphic novels) – Though he’s one of my favorite authors I haven’t yet read all of Gaiman’s books, but when you count Sandman, I’ve read enough to put him at the top of this list.

2. Jim Butcher (17 books plus some comics) – I LOVE the Dresden Files and have read every one of those books, some more than once. I honestly can’t get enough of Harry Dresden. I haven’t read his Codex Alera series yet, but since it’s sounding like we may have a long wait until the next Dresden novel is released I will probably try those soon. And I cannot wait to read The Aeronaut’s Windlass.

3. John Grisham (14 books) – I started reading Grisham when I was 12 years old. I believe The Client was the first one I read, then for years A Time to Kill was my favorite book. However, over the years either my tastes have changed (likely) or his writing has just gone downhill because the last few I read were simply disappointing. I’m afraid to go back and reread those early novels in case I realize they’re not as good as I once believed.

4. Charlaine Harris (13 books) – She makes the list because I read every one of the Sookie Stackhouse books, even after I started losing interest in the series. For some unknown reason I just could not give up.

5. Michael Crichton (12 books) – I discovered Michael Crichton shortly after The Lost World was released in theaters and I decided I really wanted to read the books. I think I’ve read most of the books published under his real name, I still haven’t read most published under his pseudonym or any of his nonfiction titles. Unlike Grisham, I feel like Crichton’s writing still holds up.

6. Maria V. Snyder (12 books) – I love Maria’s characters and her writing, and having been fortunate enough to meet her several times, I can say she is also a wonderful person. I think her Study series is still my favorite, but I really love everything she’s written.

7. J.K. Rowling (10 books) – Of course she makes the list because I’ve read all seven Harry Potter books multiple times, plus Quidditch Through the Ages, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, and The Tales of Beedle the Bard. I haven’t read any of her muggle books yet, though I fully intend to someday.

8. Jen Lancaster (10 books) – I am addicted to everything Lancaster writes. I love her sense of humor and writing style. I prefer her memoirs to her fiction, but I’ve read nearly all of her books.

9. J.R.R. Tolkien (at least 8 possibly more) – Between The Hobbit, Lord of the Rings, The Silmarillion, The Lays of Beleriand and some of the other histories of Middle Earth, I have read quite a few books by Tolkien and I have loved every single one.

10. C.S. Lewis (8 books) – Of course I’ve read all of the Chronicles of Narnia multiple times, as well Mere Christianity. Lewis will always remain one of my favorite writers.

11. Cassandra Clare (8 books) – I have read nearly all her books. I love the Mortal Instruments, though I confess I still haven’t finished City of Heavenly Fire (I’m about halfway through it) and still need to read The Bane Chronicles.
