Top Ten Tuesday: Wishes for the Book Genie

Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. This week’s category is Top Ten Wishes I’d Ask the Book Genie to Grant.

Just thinking about this topic makes me wish there really WAS a Book Genie out there to grant wishes. Wouldn’t life be grand?

1. Time-Turner

I know a Time-Turner isn’t real (and even if they were real, I think Harry and his friends managed to destroy nearly all of them during their foray into the Ministry of Magic, though that was well over a decade ago so I suppose more would have been made by now). But neither are genies, so I’m sure if I ever met a Genie, I could ask for a Time-Turner. I would love to have one simply so I could get all the work done that I HAVE to get done during the day, then can turn it back a few hours just to have time to sit and read (and not worry about everything else I should be doing instead).

2. A Larger Home with a Library

I’m sure all of us book lovers could use this one. I would love to live in a house that had a library room. But not just any room, one positioned to receive a lot of natural light, with floor to ceiling shelves (but not a high ceiling, I’d want to be able to reach the top shelf with just a step stool). I would also be content with, instead of a whole new house, the Genie creating a TARDIS-like room that’s bigger on the inside, in which to store my ever-expanding book collection.

3. Unlimited Access to Books

There are occasionally books that I’d like to read, but are hard to find or may be out of print. I’d love to be able to just easily find any book that I’d like to read, when I want to read it.

4. Unlimited Book Budget

If I have unlimited access to books, then I’m going to need unlimited funds to purchase those books.

5. More books in the Wizarding World

They don’t have to be books about Harry Potter. They could be about the Marauders’ days at Hogwarts, The Order of the Phoenix’s first round against Voldemort, Harry’s children or even some random other child attending Hogwarts for the first time. I don’t really care which character the books would focus on, I just really want more books set in this world.

6. A job that pays to read books (that I want to read)

Because who wouldn’t want to get paid to just read all day? I know that jobs like this exist – some people do get paid to review books after all – but they may not always get to choose what they want to read and review. I would love for my job to be just reading whatever I want to read, then work wouldn’t be cutting into my reading time. I could still afford to pay my bills, while spending most of my time curled up with a good book.

7. Water/Spill resistant books

I know this one may sound silly, but I hate when a book I really like gets damaged by spills. (Don’t we all?) I would love if all my books were magically resistant to any fluid. Except Ink, of course. Because I would want to be able to highlight and make notes. This would also make it much easier to read in the bathtub (something I rarely do now, because I am a very clumsy person and will most likely drop my book into the tub).

8. Ability to read faster while still processing what I’ve read

So many books, so little time! I would love to be able to read just a little faster, so I can get through my TBR stack a little quicker. But at the same time, I don’t want a faster reading speed to decrease my comprehension or enjoyment of whatever I am reading.

9. Make Harry Potter’s world real

I debated this one for a while. I love Middle Earth and Narnia and would love to travel to all those places, but for some reason I think I would actually have the most fun in the wizarding world. As long as I’m not a Muggle. Which I totally would not be. I’m a Gryffindor.

10. All movie adaptations will be well done

The book will still be better than the movie of course, but I would definitely wish that the movie adaptations would all be well done and not utterly disappointing. More adaptations like The Martian and less like Eragon, please.

Wow, this was actually a little harder than I expected it to be. It’s probably because I overthink things like this; I want to make sure everything is meaningful and not just a random waste of a wish. (I do the same thing with gift cards – I can spend money in a bookstore with no problem, until I have a gift card. Then I take forever to use it because I want the purchase to be something special. I know, I’m weird.) What wishes would you want the Book Genie to grant you?
