Call me CJ.

I am a thirtysomething who is still trying to figure out what she wants to be when she grows up – or whether she really wants to grow up at all. I have a master’s degree in English Literature but am currently on a completely different path, diving into the world of programming in technology which is a complete surprise to me (but I love it).

My two major passions in life (aside from my husband) are reading and writing. Books have been a passion for as long as I can remember, and I love sharing my thoughts about those books with all of my readers.

My other interests include television and film. I’m basically a pop culture fanatic and huge nerd. (Just in case you couldn’t tell by the scarf I’m wearing in that photo.)

In addition to this blog, I also write fiction – or at least, I try. I’m about halfway through one novel and have ideas circling for another, very different novel. Hopefully someday soon I’ll finish one of them and then go about the business of attempting to get them published.

When I started this blog my goal was to have it take off and become it’s own business. That would still be awesome, but now I’m content to have it be a side project and just see where it goes. It you’re here and reading this, thank you for spending a little time with me and my ramblings.

What’s in a Name?

I get a lot of questions about where my blog name comes from, though if you’re at all familiar with early 2000s pup culture, perhaps you’ve already figured it out. It’s not a long or complicated story, but here it is for those who are interested.

When I was in college I worked as the News Editor for our campus newspaper. Most of my fondest memories from that time period involve late nights working in that office. One year – I can’t remember which, though I suspect it may have been senior year – we decided to create column names for each editor to display when they wrote editorials.

Now, I have to tell you I’m terrible at coming up with clever titles for anything, so this was a daunting task. I’m sure I probably took the longest of anyone. But then I heard a song on the radio – Hoku, “Another Dumb Blonde” – and I had it. Because I’m not that girl, I’m not another dumb blonde.

So there you have it, the unlikely origin story for this blog name. I’m became very attached to that title and have carried it with me since college. This blog has existed in many incarnations before the one you see here – the one I’m most happy with. I expect it will now stay for quite some time.
