Top Ten Tuesday: Authors Who Have a Fun Social Media Presence

Top Ten Tuesday

Top Ten Tuesday is sponsored by That Artsy Reader Girl.

This week’s topic is “Authors Who Have a Fun Social Media Presence.” I’ll be honest. I’m terrible at social media. I don’t keep up with it as often as I would like anymore, and I had a hard time thinking of which authors I actually even follow on social media, let alone which ones have a “fun” presence. Also, in thinking about this list I realized some (if not all) I only really follow on certain mediums. So this list may not quite fit that description, but these are the authors I like to follow, in no particular order.

  • Sarah Addison Allen (Facebook) – If you’re a fan of Allen’s whimsical use of magical realism (her stories are wonderful) then you have to follow her on Facebook. She had taken some time off for family and personal reasons, but is now back. I love her habit of writing short stories to go along with random photographs.
  • Stephen King (Twitter) – I’ll be honest, I’ve only read a handful of King’s books, but he’s clever and I really like his perspective.
  • John Scalzi (Twitter) – I love Scalzi’s humor, which comes through quite a bit in his Twitter account. (I also love his books, but I’m behind in reading them and am slowly working my way through them.)
  • Sarah J. Maas (Instagram) – I just love getting updates on her books, and occasional photos of her adorable baby.
  • Neil Gaiman (Everywhere) – I would follow Neil Gaiman ANYWHERE. He is one of my all-time favorite authors, and if you’re a fan, then I don’t think I need to explain any further. This man is a true genius, and I love getting glimpses into his world.
  • Maria V. Snyder (Facebook) – I love Maria so much and always look forward to her posts.
  • Susan Dennard (Instagram) – Confession: I did not enjoy Truthwitch when I read it. But I love following Dennard on Instagram because she’s just so real. She’s open, honest and talks about real life and women’s issues that people rarely talk about it public. I’ve gained so much respect for her through social media, that I definitely plan to give the entire series a second chance when I have time to read them all.
  • Jen Hatmaker (Everywhere) – Another that I follow anywhere and everywhere (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Podcasts…). Jen Hatmaker has become my safe place in this crazy world. She (and others like her) remind me that it’s ok to question and struggle in my faith and to let it evolve. After losing Rachel Held Evans last year, I’m not sure what I would have done if I didn’t still have Jen’s voice in my timelines.

There’s my list. I know it’s not quite 10, and I’m sure there’s some I follow whom I left out, but these are the ones that immediately came to mind and the ones that I enjoy following the most.

What authors do you enjoy following and who should I add to my social media feeds?
