Top Ten Tuesday: Waiting on Book Two

Posted on Updated on

Top Ten Tuesday

Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. This week’s category is Top Ten Debut Authors Who Have Me Looking Forward To Their Sophomore Novel.

The funny thing about this one is that a year ago I would have added Harper Lee to this list, then lamented the fact that we may never get the opportunity to read anything else by her. But we now miraculously live in a world where Harper Lee has released that long-awaited sequel to To Kill a Mockingbird.

I actually had trouble coming up with 10 debut authors I’ve read and am eagerly awaiting second books from, so my list has 6 of those, plus 4 debut authors that I would really like to read soon.

Debut Authors Who Have Me Looking Forward to Their Sophomore Novel…

1. Andy Weir (The Martian)

If you’ve read my blog at all in the last couple months, you may have detected a hint of fanaticism when it comes to my love of The Martian. The book is absolutely fantastic, and I really hope Weir publishes something new soon.

2. Ellen Herrick (The Sparrow Sisters)

I really loved The Sparrow Sisters. I picked it up on a whim from a stack of ARCs in our breakroom at work, and am so glad I did. It’s a great blend of magical realism, whimsy, and family. I’m looking forward to what Herrick comes up with next.

3. Dawn Kurtagich (The Dead House)

Her first book was just so fascinating and creepy, I really want to read more.

4. Max Wirestone (The Unfortunate Decisions of Dahlia Moss)

The Unfortunate Decisions of Dahlia Moss was so crazy and fun to read that I really hope this becomes an ongoing series, because I would love to read more of Dahlia’s adventures.

5. Ruth Ware (In a Dark, Dark Wood)

This was one of the best mystery novels I read this year, certainly better than The Girl on the Train by a wide margin. According to Goodreads her next novel will be out this summer and I’m looking forward to it.

6. Nicola Yoon (Everything, Everything)

I don’t often read a lot of straight YA novels, I usually stick to the scifi/fantasy subgenre, but Everything, Everything really pulled me in and I would definitely read anything else by Yoon.

… and 4 Debut Authors I Really Want to Read Soon:

1. Sabaa Tahir (An Ember in the Ashes)

2. Victoria Aveyard (Red Queen)

3. Kim Liggett (Blood and Salt)

4. Moïra Fowley-Doyle (The Accident Season)

Ooh, I didn’t know Weir had another book coming. Good to know! I’ve got The Accident Season on my TBR list, too.

I hope you like In a Dark, Dark Wood! I might not have read it if one of my managers hadn’t handed it to me and told me to read it, but now I’m so glad I did.

This was a hard list this week I thought. You have several authors I’ve heard really good things about- nice mix.

It was a hard one; I realized that until recently I didn’t really even pay attention to whether or not the author was a new author, I just read the book if it sounded good. Now I’m paying much more attention to the authors I read.

Great list. You have a few books on here that I have read and enjoyed myself. I think I am also going to have to add a few of these to my Christmas wishlist, it looks like I have missed out on some great debuts recently. I am excited to read An Ember in the Ashes too, I have heard so many good things about that one. Here’s my TTT.

I’m looking forward to Andy Weir’s next book. He’s said it’s more traditional sci-fi.

I absolutely loved the Martian, but from what I’ve heard of Andy Weir’s next novel, I’m…nervous. Very nervous, to say the least.
