Remember last month when I promised not to buy any new books in April? Yeah … about that. I definitely failed. Although, I can say that I didn’t buy as many books as I did in March. So that’s progress, right? We’ll see if I can do better in May. I already bought my book club books for the month, so there shouldn’t be anything that I have to buy.
My goal for May is to not buy any books at all (unless they’re gifts for someone else). That way, I’m not adding to my TBR pile and perhaps I’ll actually get some of these read in a decent time frame. We’re almost a week into the May and so far I’ve managed to resist, though I nearly cried when I realized one of my favorite library sales happens this month … maybe I could make an exception?
Books Purchased:
- An Outsider in the White House by Bernie Sanders with Hank Gutman – I wanted to read books by each of the two Democratic candidates before Primary Day in PA.
- Falling Kingdoms (Falling Kingdoms #1) by Michelle Rhodes – One of my managers loves this series and recommended it to me.
- The Last Letter From Your Lover by JoJo Moyes – Ever since reading Me Before You I’ve wanted to read more of her books.
- Wool by Hugh Howey – This is the June selection for Watch the Skies.
- The Argonauts by Maggie Nelson – This is the May selection for Our Shared Shelf.
- Americanah by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie – I’ve been hearing a lot about this book lately and have gotten really curious. Plus, one of my coworkers says it’s incredible.
ARCs, Finished Copies, and other miscellaneous free books:
- Last Call at the Nightshade Lounge by Paul Krueger – This sounded really interesting, (And it came with coasters!)
- Black River Falls by Jeff Hirsch – A YA novel that caught my interest one day.
- All is Not Forgotten by Wendy Walker – This just sounded interesting.
- The After Party by Anton DiSclafani – My manager handed this to me one day. It sounds like it could be interesting.
- The Woman in Cabin 10 by Ruth Ware – Ware’s In a Dark, Dark Wood was one of my favorite reads of last summer. I cannot wait to start this one.
- Britt-Marie Was Here by Frederik Backman – I’ve been hearing a lot about Backman all of a sudden and all his novels sound charming. I’m looking forward to reading this.
eBooks
I only purchased one eBook this month, but did receive approval for a couple eARCs
- We Should All Be Feminists by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie (purchased) – I haven’t seen the TED Talk, but since I’ve been reading a lot of feminist literature lately, this caught my interest.
- The Sudden Appearance of Hope by Claire North (eARC) – I am so excited about this ARC! I loved her first two novels (which aren’t really her first two, just the first two published under this name) and so far I’m really enjoying this one as well.
- The Invisible Library by Genevieve Cogman (eARC) – This sounded really interesting, and it’s described as Doctor Who with librarian spies. How could I resist?
We Should All Be Feminists is fantastic! I am so excited for the Nightshade Lounge too!
